It has recently been brought to my attention (hi, Megan!) that this blog has sat rather dormant over the past months…my bad. 2010 was a huge year for us Veazies, and already, two weeks in, 2011 seems like it’s going to be just as busy! For those who care, a list of some of what we did in 2010:
- Celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary! (We’ve already celebrated our second, as well!)
- Began the house hunt. We narrowed down our list of available houses so much that we were relieved to actually have any to look at!
- Found a house, loved it, and decided not to buy it because of it’s location on a busy street. This house still gives us the “What-ifs”, but we think it’s for the best that another family bought it.
- Found another house, loved it (slightly less than the first house), and decided to put in an offer on it. Two counter-offers later, we were signing papers and getting loan documents in order to put a down payment on it!
- A month before we moved in, we adopted our second retired greyhound, Charlie. He was welcomed by Scott and I, and Poppy has learned to tolerate his presence—they’re actually lying on the same bed as I type!
- Celebrated Scott’s 29th birthday early, since Moving Day was on his actual birthday.
- After moving in, Scott and a friend went out for beers while I, exhausted, sat in the family room and watched a slug slime it’s way across the wall. One frantic phone call and quite a few text messages later, I was determined that maybe this house wasn’t The One after all. Too late, though! (We’re now 8 months slug-free! Whoopee!)
- Bought our first new appliances—new washer and dryer. I felt like such a grown-up!
- In July, we went to Ikea and came out with a truckload of flat-packed boxes that would become our kitchen. The process took over a month, but now our kitchen is brand-new, with stainless-steel appliances and butcher-block countertops that we love. We’re glad it’s over, though!
- The kitchen, living room, dining room, guest room and full bathroom were painted over the summer. We still have to tackle the family room (probably after we tear out the fireplace that doesn’t work), our bedroom and bathroom, and the office.
- Celebrated my 25th birthday between painting projects and building what seemed like tons of Scandinavian furniture.
- We held our first holiday party, and hosted Christmas this year, too!
- We bought a quarter-season of Blazer tickets, and are cautiously optimistic about the player’s health. We also cheered the Ducks during the BCS National Title game—even though they lost!
Looking back on 2010, it’s hard to believe that we even had time to breathe! We’re celebrating our accomplishments (and our anniversary, too) by going to Disney World next week, and can’t be more excited to soak up a little more sun than we get in January in the PNW and to see the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (ok, that’s just me…). Wish us luck in our travels, and even more luck on tackling our big projects we have lined up for the year to come!
